Richard Korver biography
Mr. Richard A. Korver has been an attorney since 2000. He currently works at Richard Korver lawyers in Amsterdam and leads the civil section within this firm.
Specialisations
He is modernly specialised, which means that he has devoted himself to litigation and negotiation. This ties in with his background as founder and trainer of The-Act-Trainings, an agency that has been providing training in communication skills for (legal) professionals since 1996.
Clients
His clients are mostly people with a liberal profession and companies. However, private individuals are also regularly assisted by Mr. Richard Korver. Proceedings involving a common ground between criminal and civil law are common. Examples include disciplinary accusations made against a professional, proceedings against the government regarding unlawful detention or a sentence imposed by a judge that forces the convicted to undergo psychiatric treatment (terbeschikkingstelling, TBS), or a preliminary relief against the publication of photographs of alleged shoplifters.
Secondary functions
Within the legal context he has mainly specialised in – outside of procedural law – the field of WSNP (Natural Persons Debt Restructuring Act, Wet Schuldsanering Natuurlijke Personen), corporate law and vice crime cases.
Until 1 June 2009, he was a board member of the Proefprocessenfonds Clara Wichmann and he is a member of the Dutch Association for Procedural Law, the Association for Women and Law, the Dutch Association of Health Law and the Dutch Association for Educational Law and a board member of the The-Act Foundation and The-Act-Plays Foundation, a theatre company.
He is co-founder and chairman of the Landelijk Advocaten Netwerk Gewelds- en Zeden Slachtoffers (LANGZS). He assists victims of serious (vice) crimes both in criminal proceedings, but also in the civil procedure in recovering damages or in family law in order to limit the consequences of the abuse as much as possible. In addition, he also assists suspects of serious (vice) crimes.
Civil law – Criminal law – International law
Civil and criminal law often come together in vice crime cases because of the fact that serious damage is often involved. This is also regularly the case in juvenile law in connection with supervision orders. This is the reason why he often acts in this kind of cases as well.
Additionally he handles cases with an international character. He has for example represented clients in London, Madrid and Brussels and is a member of The International Criminal Bar (ICB), International Criminal Law Network (ICLN), The International Criminal Defense Attorneys Association and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL). Mr Korver is also regularly involved in international child abduction cases.
Trainings – lectures – Recht van Spreken
In addition to his training at The-Act-Trainings, Mr. Richard Korver is also a regular lecturer for Kluwer (criminal law) and Zuidweg & Partners. Korver has given lectures for the University of Leiden, Free University, Intervict, IVJO, Modus Vivendi, and SPUI25 and the business community. Korver is also author of the book Recht van Spreken.
